Hermès Gold

Hermès Gold is a warm tan brown, not a metallic colour. Product pages listed it for twelve lines, including the Evelyne, Lindy, Picotin Lock, Jypsière and Della Cavalleria, and it appears in the Hermès online store far more often than Rouge H, Nata or Gris Pantin.

What Gold looks like

Gold is a medium tan brown with a warm, slightly orange cast, close to what is often called camel or caramel. The English name causes confusion: on a Hermès product page, Gold is the colour of the leather, not a shiny metallic finish. The metal fittings are listed separately as hardware, such as palladium plated or yellow gold plated, and the colour name tells you nothing about them.

Compared with Étoupe, Gold has no grey in it and looks plainly brown. It is lighter than a dark chocolate and darker than a sand or biscuit beige. Warm light and phone cameras can shift a tan noticeably, so the colour name on the hermes.com listing is a better guide than any single picture or the approximate swatch above.

Gold across leathers

Gold was listed for lines made in quite different leathers, from grained calfskins to smoother ones. Hermès describes Epsom as having a small, regular and slightly glossy grain, Taurillon Clemence as semi-matt with a generous, irregular grain, and Swift as almost smooth with a delicate shine.

Similar colours

Étoupe is the nearest neutral if Gold feels too warm: it trades the tan for a grey-brown taupe. For a deeper colour with the same warmth, Rouge H moves into dark red. Nata and Craie are the pale alternatives when you want a light bag instead of a mid-tone one.
