Hermès boutique appointments

Some Hermès boutiques in some countries ask clients to request an appointment, while others serve clients who walk in. Hermès does not publish one rule for every store, and practice changes by store and by country. This guide covers what to check, what buyers report and what you can buy without visiting.

Do you need an appointment at Hermès?

It depends on the boutique. Some Hermès stores use appointment requests and some let clients come in without one. Two boutiques in different cities can work differently, and a store can change its approach over time, so advice written about one boutique may not apply to yours.

The reliable way to find out is to ask the boutique itself, using the contact details Hermès lists for that store. We do not describe a booking system, a booking link or booking rules here, because we cannot confirm one method that works the same way everywhere.

What an appointment is and is not

An appointment is time with a sales associate, not a reservation of a bag. Buyers commonly report that booking a visit does not mean a Birkin or a Kelly bag will be shown, and that what is offered depends on what the boutique has received and on the associate's judgement.

Nor is it something you can pay a third party to arrange. Services that sell guaranteed appointments or bag offers are not part of Hermès, and giving them money or personal details carries real risk.

What buyers commonly report

Buyer accounts of boutique visits vary widely, but a few observations recur. They are reports, not rules, and none of them is confirmed by Hermès.

Before the visit

Buyers who describe useful visits usually arrived knowing what they wanted to look at: a category, a few models and a budget. They also mention checking prices for that country in advance, since Hermès prices differ between countries and include local taxes.

During the visit

Reports stress conversation over a single demand. Clients talk about how they would use a bag, which colours they already own and what else in the store interests them. Several say that asking directly for a Birkin on a first visit rarely led anywhere, but that is anecdote rather than policy.

After the visit

Some associates take contact details and follow up; others do not. Buyers who went back to the same associate describe it as easier to build a working relationship than when they saw someone new each time, which our guide to sales associates covers in detail.

Walk-in visits

Where a boutique accepts walk-in clients, buyers describe queues at busy times and being asked to wait or to come back later. Opening hours and how a queue is managed are decided locally, so check with the store before travelling specially.

Appointments in different countries

Buyers' accounts differ between countries and even between stores in the same city. A process described for one large boutique says little about a smaller store in the same country, let alone one abroad. Because Hermès does not publish these practices, the only current answer is the one the boutique gives you.

If you plan to buy while travelling, remember that a boutique abroad charges that country's prices in its own currency, so compare them with your home prices before the visit.

What actually appears online

No appointment is needed for the Hermès online store. Leather bags such as the Garden Party, Evelyne, Picotin, Lindy and Herbag are listed there when stock arrives, and anyone shopping in that country's store can buy them while they last. The Birkin and the Kelly bag are the exception: neither has appeared in our monitoring since it began on 29 May 2026.

Online, the difficulty is speed rather than access. Hermès does not announce restocks, and popular sizes can sell out within minutes, which is the gap restock alerts are built for.
