The Picotin is a small bucket bag from Hermès, carried by hand and closed with a leather cord and lock. The online store lists it in two sizes, 18 and 22. Prices start at £2,700 in the UK, and it is one of the models that appears most often on hermes.com.
What is the Hermès Picotin
Hermès started in Paris in 1837 as a harness workshop, and the Picotin keeps that equestrian link in its name: a picotin is the old French measure of oats given to a horse. The shape follows the idea of a feed bucket. It is an open, rounded tote with two short handles, and the version sold today, the Picotin Lock, is closed by a leather cord that runs between the handles and fastens with a lock.
Hermès describes the bag simply: leather cord with lock closure, carried by hand. There is no shoulder strap, no zip and no flap. The most common leather is taurillon Clemence, a soft grained calfskin, but the same shape also comes in Barenia Faubourg, in Goeland canvas with Swift calfskin and in felt with Swift calfskin and a Kelly lock.

Picotin 18
The Picotin Lock 18 measures 18 × 19 × 13 cm according to Hermès, so it is slightly taller than it is wide. It is the size that appears in the online store most often and the one with the widest choice of leathers and colours: every Clemence colour we recorded exists in 18, while the Barenia Faubourg, canvas pocket and felt versions were only listed in this size. It suits a phone, a compact wallet and keys rather than a full day bag.
Picotin 22
The Picotin Lock 22 measures 22 × 21 × 17 cm. Compared with the 18 it is 4 cm wider, 2 cm taller and 4 cm deeper, which in practice means room for a full-size wallet and a sunglasses case next to the phone. In our records it appears online less often than the 18 and in fewer colours, mostly neutrals such as Étoupe, Gold, Noir and Gris Pantin. It costs about £190 more than the 18 in the same leather.
Hermès also makes a Micro Picotin. It has not appeared in the restock feeds we monitor, so we do not list measurements or a price for it here.
Hermès Picotin prices
Each Hermès country store has its own price list, and retail prices include local taxes, so a UK price does not convert neatly into euros or yen. Within one country the leather changes the price more than the size does: the canvas pocket version and Barenia Faubourg both cost more than Clemence. We take every figure from the official product pages and show the date we checked them next to the table.

Unlike the Birkin and the Kelly bag, the Picotin is sold through the Hermès online store, so you do not need a boutique relationship to buy one. The catch is timing: new stock is listed without notice and sells out quickly. When we checked the product pages on 17 September 2026, every Picotin listing we opened showed as out of stock. Buying online in practice means reacting within minutes of a restock.
In a Hermès boutique
Boutiques receive their own allocation, and what is on the shelf depends on the store and the day. A sales associate can tell you whether a Picotin is available in person, but stock in one boutique says nothing about the online store or another country.
On the resale market
Resale platforms usually have Picotins in stock, often priced above the Hermès retail price and with a real risk of counterfeits. If you buy second-hand, use a reseller that authenticates every bag and compare the asking price with the official prices above.
