Hermès Barenia Faubourg leather

Barenia Faubourg is a calfskin Hermès introduced in 2016 as a re-interpretation of its Barenia calfskin. It has a minuscule printed grain and a waxy, velvety feel, and like Barenia it acquires a patina, darkening in the most exposed areas. Online, we record it far more often on the Evelyne 16 than on any other model.

Where Barenia Faubourg comes from

Hermès presents Barenia Faubourg as an all-new heritage leather: a re-interpretation of Barenia calfskin, not Barenia itself. Its grain is exclusive to Hermès, and the name links it to 24, Faubourg Saint-Honoré, the Paris address of the Hermès flagship store.

The profile explains what is different. The surface carries a minuscule printed grain that reproduces a drum grain, so it has the look of a drummed leather while being printed. In the hand, Hermès calls it relaxed and generous, and more supple than Barenia.

What it keeps from Barenia is the way it ages: Hermès says it acquires a patina like Barenia and darkens in the most exposed areas. Classic Barenia has not appeared in the product pages we checked, so we do not describe it here.

Barenia Faubourg compared with Clemence, Box and Volupto

The Evelyne 16 Amazone and the Picotin Lock 18 are both listed in Barenia Faubourg and in Clemence. Clemence is semi-matt with a generous grain and becomes more supple; Barenia Faubourg is waxy and velvety with a barely visible grain, and changes colour where it is exposed. It also costs more: in the UK a Picotin Lock 18 is £2,990 in Barenia Faubourg against £2,700 in Clemence, and an Evelyne 16 Amazone is £1,920 against £1,720, according to product pages checked on 17 September 2026.

Box and Volupto are two other leathers whose Hermès profiles mention a patina. Box is smooth, glossy and sensitive to scratches at first; Volupto is satiny and very supple, darkening and becoming shinier where it is handled. Of the three, only Barenia Faubourg has a printed grain.

Which bags come in Barenia Faubourg

Hermès lists Barenia Faubourg for the Evelyne 16 Amazone, the Picotin Lock 18, the Bolide Messenger and the Calvi Duo Compact. In France the Bolide Messenger in Barenia Faubourg costs €6,700, and in the UK the Calvi Duo Compact costs £540, according to product pages checked on 17 September 2026.

Our monitoring also records it on the Kelly Dépêches 25, which is a different model from the Kelly handbag. Barenia Faubourg appears in the online store far less often than Clemence.

What Barenia Faubourg costs

Barenia Faubourg always costs more than the everyday grain on the same item, though it is not always the dearest option. The Picotin Lock 18 is £2,990 in Barenia Faubourg against £2,700 in Clemence — but the felt and Swift version of that same size is £5,140. The Evelyne 16 Amazone is £1,920 against £1,720 in Clemence, while its Grizzly and Clemence version is £2,050. The Calvi Duo Compact card holder is £540 against £480 in Epsom, and £730 in a printed Swift.

Only four items in our reference carry a confirmed price in it, and the dearest of those is the Kelly Dépêches 25 pouch at £8,410 — where Box calfskin, on the same pouch, is £10,360. Five lines list it at all, against thirteen for Swift, so the appearance table above is correspondingly short.

Caring for Barenia Faubourg

Keep the bag away from water and out of prolonged sunlight. Hermès says the leather darkens in the most exposed areas, so some change in colour over the years is the patina it describes.

Store it stuffed with paper or soft fabric in its dust bag. For stains, scratches or worn edges, ask a Hermès boutique about the Hermès aftercare service instead of treating the waxy surface at home.
