Hermès Togo leather

Togo is a matt calfskin with a round, irregular grain and veins and wrinkles that are often very pronounced, the result of intensive drumming. Hermès has used it since 1997 and says it softens over time. Togo appears online far less often than Clemence, and most of what we record is the Kelly Dépêches 25.

Where Togo comes from

Togo owes its name to the theme of the year it was created, which was Africa: the leather is named after an African country. It entered the collections in 1997.

Its character comes from an intensive drumming process that, in Hermès's words, brings out the natural features of the hide. The veins and wrinkles are those features: Hermès lists them under appearance, as part of how Togo is meant to look.

In the hand, Hermès describes Togo as supple and responsive, and to the touch as dry, quite responsive and well-rounded. On product pages it is listed as "Togo calfskin".

Togo compared with Clemence, Negonda and Epsom

Clemence is Togo's nearest neighbour, since both are drummed, grained leathers. Hermès describes Clemence as semi-matt, soft and smooth, with a yielding hand, while Togo is matt and dry with more pronounced veins. Clemence is five years older, dating from 1992.

Negonda reads similarly on paper, deeply grained, quite matt and dry, but it is made another way: Hermès says it is the only one of its leathers obtained through shrinking. Epsom is the structured alternative, with a small printed grain, a firm hand and a shape that holds.

Which bags come in Togo

Hermès lists Togo for the Bolide Messenger, the Hac à Dos PM and the Arcon family, where the Arcon, Arcon Slim and P'tit Arcon combine Togo with Swift. In the UK the Bolide Messenger in Togo costs £5,870 and the Hac à Dos PM costs £8,510, according to product pages checked on 17 September 2026.

Our monitoring also records Togo on the Kelly Dépêches 25 and 36. These are not the Kelly handbag: the Kelly bag itself is not sold on hermes.com and Fairy bag does not track it. Overall, Togo appears in the online store far less often than Clemence or Swift.

What Togo costs on the same item

Togo appears in seven price rows in our reference. Three of them are the Arçon line, where Togo is combined with Swift; the other four use Togo on its own. The Arçon spread shows what the mix costs: £3,870 for the P'tit Arçon, £4,120 for the Arçon slim and £4,510 for the Arçon, all in Togo and Swift calfskin.

Used on its own, Togo sits at the upper end. The Bolide Messenger is £5,870 in Togo, and the Kelly Dépêches 36 is £9,530 — the same price as the Epsom version of that briefcase, which is a useful reminder that the grain is a choice of character rather than of budget.

Caring for Togo

Keep a Togo bag away from water and prolonged sunlight, and store it stuffed with paper or soft fabric inside its dust bag so it keeps its outline as the leather softens.

For marks, stains or worn edges, take the bag to a Hermès boutique and ask about the Hermès aftercare service rather than applying products at home.
