Hermès leathers
Hermès publishes a short profile for each leather on its product pages: when it entered the collections, how it looks, feels and ages. This guide gathers the 16 leathers listed for the bags we track and shows which of them appear most often in the Hermès online store.
How Hermès leathers differ
The clearest split is in how the grain is made. Taurillon Clemence, Togo and Volupto are drummed; Epsom, Evercolor, Evergrain and Barenia Faubourg have a printed grain. Mysore goatskin is boarded, rolled grain against grain, Negonda is shrunk before tanning, and Grizzly is a suede sanded on the flesh side.
Ageing is the second split. Hermès says Epsom, Box and Tadelakt keep their shape and Hunter cowhide stays stable, while Clemence, Swift, Togo and Milo lambskin grow softer or more supple. Box, Chamkila, Volupto, Grizzly and Barenia Faubourg are the ones whose profiles mention a patina.

How to read this
The profiles describe how a leather behaves; they do not rank leathers. A firm leather that keeps its shape suits a structured model, and one that softens suits a bag you want to relax, so the choice depends on the model.
The appearance counts measure something else: how often a leather shows up online, which follows the models Hermès lists in it. Clemence leads because the Evelyne, Picotin and Lindy come in it, while Togo appears far less often. If you want a particular leather, set an alert for a model that comes in it and check the product page when it appears.
